Working remotely
Working remotely abroad
We believe that our team of international employees is a key source of Tiqets' global success. We understand that employees would like to visit their families abroad and/or extend their stay by working from another country. With our hybrid way of working the possibility to also work from another country is indispensable.
Tiqets wants to facilitate working remotely abroad but is also obliged to take the social security position of our employees into account, as well as any adverse tax/social security contributions for Tiqets in foreign countries.
Tax & social security difficulties
As each country has its own rules regarding (wage and income) tax and social security in case of working remotely, it remains difficult to formulate a “catch-all '' policy concerning the number of days Tiqets can allow its employees to work remotely. This should therefore be checked on a case-by-case basis.
In order to create guidelines for working remotely abroad, the Tiqets policy is that working remotely for a certain period of time is (generally) allowed (more information will follow below). In order to monitor the location of our employees and any relevant (tax/social security) risks associated with working remotely, Tiqets decided that People & Culture should assess and approve working remotely beforehand in collaboration with Tax.
The request
Given the risks for Tiqets and its employees (e.g. double taxation or not socially secured employee), Tiqets decided that a Tiqets Employee* can make a request for 'working remotely abroad'.
In order for the People & Culture team to review your requests please follow the next steps:
Employees can submit a request to work remotely from the moment they have been employed at Tiqets for at least 3 months.
Discuss your plan with your manager to align on the period you will be away and to discuss the possibility of you working remotely. In some positions, it can be more difficult to do your work from another country. Only approval from your manager is not sufficient.
The People & Culture team will review your request based on the following points:
A request must be sent on time (at least 2 weeks upfront for EU countries and 1 month upfront for Non-EU countries) via Hibob. The People & Culture and Tax teams shall determine if you are allowed to work abroad (and for what period) on a case-by-case basis.
You are entitled to 30 days of working remotely per year on a full-time basis, the duration of your current contract (months in service) within the same year combined with your % employment (full-time or part-time) will be taken into account.
Tiqets will also evaluate your holiday balance case by case, and in some situations, you will need to take extra holidays if you want to spend time abroad. If we cannot approve your request, Tiqets can also offer unpaid leave as a solution.
When your request is approved and you are actually working from abroad and something happens locally (accident, illness, etc.), please notify the People & Culture team immediately!
Working remotely is only possible for employees. It does not apply to interns and/or contractors.

Submit your request
Your request will first be sent to your manager and then to the People & Culture team for approval. It's possible that the P&C team will reach out to you for further details if necessary.
Please check out the rulings and relevant considerations below!
To keep a healthy balance Tiqets recommends also taking holidays:
Everyone needs a holiday now and then to relax, and your holiday hours can also expire so be cautious of using your hours before they expire.
Every employee can buy extra or sell holiday hours. Please see the policy within this handbook. If anything is unclear please contact the P&C team directly.
P&C and managers will keep a close eye on your holiday balance.
Focus on holiday and healthy balance:
For Non-EU requests you’ll need to take some holiday and use the working remote period as an extension of your time off.
For EU requests the P&C advisor and Manager will discuss the leave balance per person and assure employees take their holiday per year.
Considerations from a tax / social security perspective:
Assumptions:
The country where you live (relevant for income tax) ←→ The country where you work (relevant for social security).
We assume that every Tiqeteer (NL office) has and remains to have an NL home/residence in the Netherlands (e.g. rented). The same applies to Tiqeteers in the EU countries and the UK.
If you want to work in another country other than the Netherlands, approval is required from People & Culture beforehand!
Relevance: By working remotely abroad Tiqets could become subject to double taxation/social securities and you might not be secured for social security benefits!
